Fatal car crash in Northgate last night

The Seattle Police reported a fatality car collision at 1:33 am last night:

An Acura Integra driven by a 27 year old male with two male passengers and a dog was travelling northbound on 24th Avenue NE. As the Acura approached NE Northgate Way, it failed to negotiate the left curve and left the roadway colliding wit a tree on the east side of 24th Avenue NE.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Seattle Fire transported the two passengers to Harborview with non life-threatening injuries. The dog was transported to a local veterinarian with non life-threatening injuries.

There is no word yet as to if the driver was under the influence but The King County Medical Examiner was on the scene to gather additional evidence.

Sand Point Man Accidentally Shoots Neighbor

Seattlecrime.com reported a man arrested today in the 4000 block of NE 50th for reckless endangerment after accidentally shooting his neighbor:

According to sources we've spoken with, the incident occurred when the suspect—a man in his 30s—was attempting to put a sling on an AK-47-style rifle in his apartment, and accidentally fired the weapon. The round went through the floor and into a lower unit, grazing another tenant in the forehead.

Body Found in Wedgwood This Morning

SeattleCrime is reporting a woman was found dead this morning in the 9100 block of 27th Ave NE:

Seattle Police Department spokeswoman Renee Witt says a couple were out walking their dog at about 6:30 this morning when they came across a white female in her 30s or 40s laying on the ground...Witt says there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play.

So far no further information has been released but the body should be identified soon.  I will update as I hear more.

Keep an eye on your iPhone because someone else might be

Lately it seems every decade has a product that gets so popular it dominates mainstream pop culture. It’s the latest trendy gadget or apparel that is desired by all kids – not coincidentally, very expensive – and therefore coveted from afar by many. In the 80’s it was Air Jordans and Starter jackets. Now, for this new century, it appears to be…iPhones. So what do over-marketed and over-priced, but highly sought after, products of this nature bring? Yep, you guessed it: crime!

The Seattle PI reports two women were mugged on Tuesday afternoon for, their iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The first incident happened at 1pm near the University Village in the 2700 block of Northeast 45th Street. The victim was listening to her iPod Touch when four or five men in their late teens or early 20’s grabbed it from her. Considering that an iPod Touch looks almost identical to an iPhone, I’m going to take a guess that that was what the robbers were hoping it would be. The second incident occurred only ten minutes later in the 4500 block of 15th Avenue Northeast. Two men, of the same age group as the previous robbery, approached a woman and grabbed her iPhone.

These two robberies in the U District are not the first of their kind.  A man was robbed on Capitol Hill at the end of January; another robbed on a Metro bus in South Seattle last December.  According to SeattleCrime.com, "it seems like police are investigating an iPhone robbery just about every other day."

So if you one of the over 80 million people predicted to own an iPhone by 2012, be aware of your surroundings when you're using it.  Odds are there could be someone very aware of yours.

Roosevelt Man Stabbed After Interrupting Car Prowlers

The SPD blotter reported that a man was stabbed tonight after interrupting two adult males breaking into his car near the corner of NE 77th Street and 16th Avenue NE:

The vehicle’s owner, an adult male in his 40’s, interrupted the crime in progress and was subsequently attacked and stabbed by the suspects.  The suspects then fled the scene in a Ford Explorer that has been described as either gray, light blue or green.  The suspects, who remain at large, were described as white males with long hair.

The victim sustained at least two stab wounds to his lower torso.  He was treated at the scene by SFD medics and transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identities or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call 911 or Seattle Police immediately and refer to this incident.

What's With the Explosions in Laurelhurst?

Reports about the trash can explosion Saturday night near NE 45th Street and 42nd Avenue NE, followed by the exploding five-gallon cooler at the corner of NE 55th Street and 31st Avenue NE on Sunday, are popping up all across the internet.  Everyone's wondering who is setting off these homemade bombs - and why, of all places, did they choose Bryant/Laurelhurst?

As of right now, the Seattle Fire and Police haven't released any leads in the case.  No one has been hurt; and other then the death of a cooler and a garbage can, there hasn't been any significant property damage.  Let's hope nothing further comes out of this trend other than the many hilarious comments received on post's such as this one on the Slog.

Wedgwood Bank Robbery This Morning

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded to an armed bank robbery call in the 8200 block of 35th Avenue NE at 10:10am this morning. The male suspect was carrying a semi-automatic handgun and backpack when he approached a teller.  After the robbery, he was last seen leaving the scene, by foot, on 82nd Avenue NE headed eastbound.  The amount of money stolen has not yet been released.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5'7" in height with a medium build. He appears to be in his late 20's to early 30's and was wearing a navy knit cap and green camouflage jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Northgate Home Invasion Robbery Turns Fatal

At 11:06pm last night, Seattle Police responded to a home invasion call in the 1400 block of North Northgate Way.  Officers arrived on the scene and found two adult men, both age 20, had sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds.  The victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center where they succumbed to their injuries.

Police are looking for three suspects who fled the scene on foot.  They are described as three African-American males, late 20's to 30's, all dressed in black and at least one is carrying a handgun.

Shots Fired in U-District Last Night

From the SPD Blotter: 

"On Monday, December 28th, at approximately 1:30 am, North Precinct officers were investigating a car prowl in the 4500 Block of 8th Avenue NE.   As they were investigating, officers were contacted by security from a nearby nightclub.  Security informed the officers that there was a large fight disturbance outside the club in the 700 Block of NE 45th Street.  As officers were approaching the club they heard 3 separate shots coming from outside on the street.  A .38 caliber revolver, later determined to have been stolen from Snohomish County, was located outside one of the vehicles.  One parked vehicle was struck by a bullet.  No persons were injured.  Seven people, including three juveniles, were arrested and transported to the North Precinct.  Three adults were later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.  The others were investigated and released."

University District Business Robbed Last Night

On December 14th, at approximately 5:20 pm, a male suspect entered a business in the 5200 Block of University Way NE.  He displayed a black short semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the employee, demanding money.  The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 22-29 years old, 5′10, with blonde hair.  He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.  The suspect fled the store after robbing it.  Officers and Robbery Unit detectives responded to the scene but the suspect was not located.  Robbery detectives will be responsible for the follow up investigation.
